Environment and Ecology Forum

Purpose of committee

The Environment and Ecology Forum comprises Members of the Council and representatives of business, commerce and community groups. It has the following functions :

 

1)     To consider and make recommendations to the Cabinet on:

 

  • All matters affecting the implementation of the Friends of the Earth Environmental Charter and any other relevant environmental initiative recommended by the corporate officers and environment team.

 

  • The city council’s domestic/trade refuse recycling scheme(s).

 

  • Other improvements and initiatives having as their principal objective the enhancement of the standard of cleanliness throughout the City through educational and promotional activities to reduce the incidence of litter.

 

2)     To consider and submit recommendations to the Cabinet in response to relevant consultative documents in the environmental and ecological fields, taking into account as appropriate the views of relevant service committees, and representative groups of both the commercial and voluntary sector interests.

 

3)     To continuously monitor the impact of the environment of both the City Council’s policies and any policy decision arising in other commercial and public organisations and to advise the Cabinet as appropriate.

 

 

4)     To advise upon monitoring the degree of pollution in air, water and where necessary land with a view to achieving a statistical audit of the quality of the City’s environment.
